1.- What is the composition of the Catholic Church in Cuba?

The Catholic Church has more than 600 active temples, among them the Cathedrals  of Havana and Santiago de Cuba and the Small Basilica, the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity, where the Virgin in the Bay of Nipe was  found in 1512 and who´s considered for many Cubans as the Patroness of the nation.

What is the Vatican?

The Vatican, officially the City of the Vatican, is located inside the city of Rome, Italy. It has an extension of 0,4km2, and it´s the smallest state in the world. It´s the only one whose official language is Latin. The Holy See, highest institution of the Catholic Church, is located in  the City of the Vatican, World Heritage since 1984.

Revolution Square Almost Ready for Pope Benedict XVI Mass

A group of workers get ready, this Saturday, March 10, the altar Pope Benedict XVI will use to officiate a Mass  as colophon to his visit to Cuba, at the Revolution Square José Martí. Benedict XVI will visit Cuba on March 26-28, 2012, the second Pontiff to visit the country following the historical visit by Pope John Paul II in 1998.

To the dislike and failure of the White House´s diplomatic pressures, Pope Benedict XVI will arrive to Cuba on March 26th. He´ll stay in the Island after entering into Latin America through Mexico. On March 28, a Mass will be celebrated in the Revolution Square, in Havana.

Benedict  XVI will celebrate in Santiago de Cuba-the historic city of Moncada Garrison, where Fidel Castro initiated his revolutionary fights in 1953-the 400th anniversary of the finding of the Virgin of Charity of Cobre.

As it has been announced through the mass media, Holy Father Benedict XVI will visit, God willing, our country next March 26-28. A particular enthusiasm is felt in our catholic communities and parishes with this good news.

This visit fullfills a desire  that for long time have lived in the hearts of the catholics and many Cubans who identify with or feel  part of the Catholic Church.
